- For question #2, explain how your new post successfully addresses the three main objectives of Plain English writing as discussed in class. Provide a detailed breakdown of each objective. (9 Marks)
1. Find what they need
Headers & Subheaders
My new post effectively helps my audience find and locate what they need to know through the use of clear headings and subheadings. This immediately shows my audience what each section is about, while skimming. It’s organized in a concise and straightforward way, so that they can quickly absorb what the key information is. They need to find what they are looking for right away without clutter or disorganization, this new layout ensures that I value their time.
For example,
Before:
- Pilates 101 – Why You’ll Be Obsessed
- How Does Pilates Benefit you? (AKA Why You Need This in Your Life)
- Your Path to A Stronger, More Confident, and Balanced Life
After:
- Why Pilates is More Than Just a Workout
- The Benefits from Our Pilates Classes
- Why We Started True Pilates Windsor
Structure
Another way that my new post helps my audience find what they need is by breaking down my information into bullet lists and organizing my information using the “F-pattern”. This immediately lets my audience and readers scan and identify what information they are looking for. My new post naturally aligns with my reader’s natural flow of consumption on the web, helping them find what they need seamlessly.
For example,
Before:
1.Mat Pilates
Mat Pilates is one of the most accessible type of Pilates because it can be done anywhere….
After:

Previously, I focused too much on explaining what Pilates itself is, instead of emphasizing what makes True Pilates Windsor different. With this shift, my new post effectively key details about True Pilates Windsor and our offerings. Letting my readers know about who we are as a brand. Which leads to information about Pilates, followed by strong call-to-actions. My audience needs to quickly find what they are looking for before they click off out of frustration or disinterest. This new post helps keep their interest by seamlessly guiding them through my content and into taking the next steps.
For example,
Before: Introduction about what Pilates is.
After: Introduction about what True Pilates Windsor is about and what it stands for.
2. Understand it
Jargon
I avoided using jargon or additional words and sentences that made the content unengaging and confusing to my audience. I don’t want to bore my readers with content that does not align with them. Clarity is extremely important because it ensures that my audience can quickly absorb and retain the information with ease. The new post explains everything in plain language, which is what my readers will appreciate because it conveys what they need to know and understand.
For example,
Before: Let’s be real, life is chaotic. Between trying to balance your professional and work life, taking care of your physical and mental health can easily fall at the bottom of the list.
I simply removed this because it was unnecessary to add. My readers know that life is hectic and chaotic and know that it’s hard to balance work and fitness. The goal is not to tell them that life is hectic, it’s about telling them WHY Pilates is beneficial. They need to understand how it can help them in their wellness journey, more specifically how Pilates classes at True Pilates Windsor benefits them. This helps them understand key information without complicating it.
Clear
My new post clearly explains what my business is and what Pilates is about in concise terms. The information is straightforward, easy-to-follow, and accessible to lower literacy levels as well. My audience can now grasp the central idea and understand it by retaining key details. The information on my new post is short and digestible each section at a time. The idea wasn’t to shorten it as much as possible or to dumb it down, but to place emphasis on the most important details. By removing words such as “a much more” or “one of the”, my readers can understand the information clearly without complicating it or making it harder for them to digest. Again, the goal is to respect their time!
For example,
Before:
2. Reformer Pilates
